Springfest At Twain’s Benefits Atlanta Community Food Bank

So many people need hope today. Often I hear of folks who are ready to toss in the towel on the economy, jobs or life. This has prompted me to write a series of articles called Hope Happens. The series is going to be similar to my book Secondhand Hope which is available from Amazon.Com. It’s not a plug for the book and some stories may overlap. What I want this series to be is a source of inspiration and a reprieve from the daily grind.
Wellbeing: How you eat affects how you feel. Next time you over-indulge, instead of feeling guilty just notice how it makes you feel physically. You may feel sluggish, tired, bloated and generally uncomfortable. Eating sweets tends to give you a quick energy boost and then a crash. Healthy choices keep your energy stable and more even, especially when you eat regularly and avoid getting overly hungry. When you eat right for you, you just feel better. It’s a noticeable difference, one that creates its own internal motivation.
Food does matter. And no, I am not talking about food as a cure for cancer. I am talking about feeling better. I am talking about even being part of the process. Feeling like you are doing something that is at least within your own power instead of sitting around waiting for the drugs to help. That alone already helps in the success of treatment. Either that or you just don’t pay enough attention to which foods might really be working for you body.

When we chew our food the flavor is detected in special cells in the tongue and nose. Nerves immediately send signals to stimulate certain parts of the brain; before we have even swallowed our food it is affecting our brains and our bodies. It is the sweet flavor in particular that stimulates the stomach and pancreas. The stomach and pancreas affect how our bodies to put on and keep on weight. They affect the way we absorb calories from our food and ultimately store the excess energy as fat. Because the flavor alone can have this effect, even artificial sweeteners may be stimulating our bodies to pack on the pounds!
Cayce added that not eating local food was the root cause of allergies! When i first heard that, it made perfect sense — what better way to cope with environmental factors than to eat the food grown in that environment?
